Waterwatch and the Koonwarra CFA have both received a funding boost thanks to the volunteering efforts of two Esso employees.
ExxonMobil Australia, parent company of Esso, recognises the volunteering work of its employees by providing $1,000 grants direct to the community organisations nominated by its employees under the company’s Volunteer Involvement Program.
Community groups in the Gippsland and South Gippsland area received the largest share of Esso’s volunteering grants, with around 60 groups each receiving a $1,000 grants, including schools, kindergartens, CFA, SES and Surf Life Saving Clubs.
Robert Stallard and Peter Hanily from Esso’s Barry Beach Marine Terminal successfully applied for the grants for the community groups that they have been assisting for many years.
Robert, who nominated Waterwatch, has been involved in monitoring water quality in the South Gippsland area for over six years. The Esso volunteering grant will be used to help buy water testing equipment for Waterwatch.
Peter, who has been involved with the CFA for seven years, nominated Koonwarra CFA to receive the grant, which will enable it to refurbish its office.
Collectively, Robert and Peter contributed more than 100 volunteer hours in the past year to these two groups.
Ray Prain, Esso Barry Beach Marine Terminal Manager, said that Esso’s employee volunteering grants program is an example of one of the ways that the company supports the local communities in areas where we operate.
“Many of our employees are active community volunteers and we are pleased to recognise the time and effort they give to community groups,” he said.
A record number of ExxonMobil Australia employees applied for the volunteering grants this year, which totaled $158,000. ExxonMobil employees gave over 10,000 hours of their personal time to support community initiatives.
