Protection Built into Planning The project’s environmental protection began a decade ago in 1993, when the first teams of scientists, engineers and other planners began their work. Field studies examined the environment and studied possible facilities locations and pipeline routes with a view to minimizing environmental impact. In addition, even after the route of the pipeline had been established, the project made additional shifts in the route at dozens of locations to avoid environmentally sensitive areas and to reduce impact on local residents. |
