Short
Lives
According to the World Bank, one out of every five children in Chad
die before reaching the age of five, due mostly to malnutrition,
lack of sanitary food and water, and lack of health care for even
easily treatable ailments such as diarrhea or intestinal parasites.
According to 2002 data, the average life expectancy in both Chad
and Cameroon is 48 years compared to the worldwide average of about
78 years.
