hurricane preparedness
Our top priority is to protect the safety of our personnel and maintain reliable supply of our products to our customers.
All ExxonMobil operating facilities have extensive hurricane preparedness plans in place and we update and practice these plans to ensure readiness. These plans provide for coordination among all business units in key locations, including the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Storm Update

Oil and Gas Production Operations
- ExxonMobil continues to closely track weather systems in the tropics.
- Our primary focus continues to be the safety of our employees, contractors and all of the communities in the affected areas
- We continue storm assessment and production restoration activities associated with Hurricane Gustav.
- As we ensure our systems are both safe and operational, we continue returning them to normal operations.
Refineries
- Our top priority as we recover from Gustav continues to be the safety and well-being of our employees, contractors and the impacted Baton Rouge, Chalmette and surrounding communities.
- The Baton Rouge Refinery and Chalmette Refining began a safe and sequenced start-up process on 5 September.
- It is anticipated that additional units will restart throughout the weekend as we work to bring the facilities back to normal operations.
- We are currently moving product supply from our Baton Rouge terminal as well as non-impacted areas to help meet any significant shortfall resulting from Hurricane Gustav.
- In the wake of Hurricane Gustav the Baton Rouge Terminal has transferred more than 4.1 million gallons of fuel and the Chalmette Terminal has transferred more than 500 thousand gallons of fuel to the region, supplying Exxon and Mobil stations as well as other brands.
Chemical Plants
- A safe and sequenced start-up of some Baton Rouge Chemical unit operations started 5 September.
- We are working closely with power providers and pipeline operators in the Baton Rouge area in order to resume full production at our chemical facilities.
