sustaining global water supplies requires investing in education

Responsible management of our operations is a critical component of ExxonMobil’s contribution to addressing global water supply issues. A sustainable global solution, however, requires global involvement—that is why ExxonMobil and its affiliates are committed to investing in environmental education of students, the general public, and future decision makers.
For example, our Canadian affiliate, Imperial Oil Limited, is partnering with the nonprofit SEEDS Foundation to bring environmental education to junior- and high-school students in Canada. Through its Habitat in Balance Program, the Foundation developed a tool that will help students make critical decisions about water management in business development scenarios. The Web-based tool, developed in 2007, will be available in 15,000 Canadian schools, providing students with a framework to understand the complex challenges of water use and management.
In the United States, ExxonMobil has supported the Environmental Literacy Council since its founding in 1997. The Council fosters environmental literacy by providing Web-based and printed information to the general public as well as resources to teachers who reach thousands of students. Its work covers a range of topics, including the challenges to conserving the global water supply, ecosystems, droughts, and floods.
