ExxonMobil issues 2007 Corporate Citizenship Report.

When it comes to measuring success, the best companies in the world look beyond their financial numbers. They know that their success is also measured by their commitment to safety and health, and their environmental and social performance.

These measures of corporate citizenship are keys to fostering excellence — and they are the foundation for delivering long-term, sustainable value to customers and shareholders.

At ExxonMobil, we build corporate citizenship into our business model. With every strategic decision, we take a disciplined, results-oriented approach to protecting our employees, contributing to local communities, and safeguarding the environment.

Each year in our Corporate Citizenship Report we detail our activities and progress — and where we can improve further. Our 2007 report describes the results of our efforts in areas such as workplace safety; environmental protection; community development; communications and engagement; as well as corporate governance, transparency and human rights. Here are some highlights:

  • We continued to be a leader within our industry in protecting worker safety and health. Last year, we achieved our best-ever safety performance for our combined employee and contractor workforce. We had less than one lost-time incident for every 4.3 million work hours.
  • We set new records for preventing oil spills. For the third year in a row, our marine vessels (those owned or under long-term leases) did not have a single spill of more than one barrel of oil.
  • We increased efficiency across our global business. Because of actions taken in 2006 and 2007, we reduced greenhouse-gas emissions by about five million metric tons. That’s equivalent to removing about one million cars from the roads in the United States.
  • We were recognized by GovernanceMetrics International as among the top one percent of companies in corporate governance, earning a 10 out of 10 rating from the group.

Behind each of these numbers are thousands of individual stories of hard work, sacrifice and dedication. The men and women of ExxonMobil know that operating responsibly wherever we do business makes us a better company — a better employer, a better neighbor, and a better corporate citizen.
