Esso is one of the market leading petrol retailers in the UK. We serve an average of one million customers an hour, 365 days a year. With around 900 sites - some 620 of which are owned by Esso, the rest being owned by independent dealers - our retail network is one of the biggest chains in the UK.
Esso also has one of the largest motorway representations of any oil company, with some 35 motorway forecourts in the UK. We supply petrol and diesel to a quarter of all motorway travellers.

We are absolutely committed to providing customers with quality fuels at competitive prices throughout the UK and are constantly improving the range of products and services at our forecourt shops.
Our latest On the Run sites have been designed to meet the refreshment needs of busy customers on the move. They offer a comfortable café environment in which to enjoy a quality range of hot drinks, freshly prepared snacks and friendly service. By the end of 2007, all On the Run service stations in the UK will be fitted with Pay at the Pump technology, which should keep the lines of people waiting at the till to a minimum.
Many of our traditional 'Snack & Shop' forecourt shops are open 24 hours a day selling a wide range of convenience goods and offering additional services such as cash machines.
Our alliance with Tesco has successfully brought together Esso's expertise in petrol retailing with Tesco's reputation for quality and value in grocery and fresh produce. There are around 160 Tesco Express shops at Esso service stations, providing our customers with even more choice and convenience. Whilst we recognise that price and convenience are important, this is never at the expense of the quality of our products. We pride ourselves on consistently providing high quality fuels and lubricants. For example, we were the first to introduce unleaded petrol in 1986, the first to make Ultra Low Sulphur (ULS) Diesel widely available, the first national oil company to market lead replacement petrol in 1999 and, more recently, we introduced Energy through our network of service stations. A range of world-leading lubricants, such as Esso Ultron and Mobil 1, are also available at Esso service stations. We accept almost every known credit and charge card. Our own Esso fuel cards can help businesses control vehicle costs and improve efficiency, both within the UK and across Europe.
