Community activities
ExxonMobil has a long-standing tradition of investing in the community. In 2009, Exxon Mobil Corporation, its divisions and affiliates, and the ExxonMobil Foundation provided a combined $196 million in cash, goods, and services worldwide. Wherever we do business, we put our energies into improving the quality of life of our neighbours and their communities. We have always considered this an important part of our responsibility as a good corporate citizen.
In the UK last year we invested over £2 million on community projects and initiatives. We give special focus to supporting the neighbourhoods around our key business locations.
By listening to our neighbours and responding to their ideas we ensure that our community programme is based on what local people need and want.
Our efforts are therefore focussed on initiatives that make a real difference, particularly in the fields of education, the environment, volunteering and safety.
In education we actively support the teaching of science, maths, technology and environmental education in schools through the ExxonMobil Link Schools programme. We also sponsor a number of programmes that encourage the highest standards of engineering teaching in universities.
Our employees and their families help too. Our volunteer involvement programme (VIP) gives employees and their families added motivation to contribute their personal time, skills and energy to help make our community initiatives a reality.
